Marcos López is born in Santa Fe, Argentina.
He starts taking photos.
He gets a continuing-education grant awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts. He moves to Buenos Aires and attends a series of workshops from prestigious Argentine photographers and foreigners who pay visits.
He participates in the creation of the Núcleo de Autores Fotográficos group, along with 12 colleagues (Oscar Pintor, Perez Aznar, Hellen Zout, to name but a few). They work together for three years creating an environment for discussion, criticism and investigation of photography as a medium of expression. Along with visual artists from other disciplines, he participates in the design and implementation of collective projects "La Kermesse", "Lavarte", "La Conquista", etc.
He makes it into the first class of foreign scholars from the International School of Film and Television in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. He lives a year and half in Cuba as a student of the school, where he makes documentaries for 16 mm film and video.
"Retratos" is published in Buenos Aires, his first book. After this, he begins to investigate with color and develops the Latino Pop series.
Publishing House La Marca, Buenos Aires, publishes "Pop Latino".
Curator, together with Valeria Gonzalez, of the "Al Sur del Sur" exhibition. Eight Argentine photographers are under Photoespana O1, at Casa de America, Madrid.
Between 2001 and 2002, in his study, he creates and develops a group of aesthetic reflection and photo production. Humberto Rivas, Pedro Meyer, Daniel Barraco and Tatiana Parcero participate as guest teachers, among others.
He is invited by the MEIAC, Museo Extremeño Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo, to photograph the Badajoz Carnaval, together with Spanish photographers (Alberto Garcia Alix, Ricard Terre, etc.) for the permanent collection of MEIAC. He is invited to the Backlight Festival 02 in Tampere, Finland. He lectures and teaches a workshop at the School of Media Arts in that city.
The University of Salamanca publishes "Sub-realism Criollo".
He is invited to the Latin American Photography Forum in Mexico City, organized by the Image Center. He explains about the perspective of photographers in the last decade and teaches a workshop for advanced students.
His first book “Retratos” is reprinted by La Azotea Publishing House, containing photographs in black and white. "El Jugador" is published, included in the Argentine Photographs series.
La Marca Publishing House launches "Pop Latino Plus". He participates in the Latin American Forum of San Paulo Photography, organized by the Itaú Cultural Institute.
He is special guest at the Art Week in Lima, Peru. He teaches a workshop under Contemporary Photography Seminar organized by the Image Center, Mexico City. He talks about the production of his work and his vision of contemporary argentine photography in the 3rd National Meeting of Photography, Chilean National Council of Culture and Arts.
He is invited by the National University of Colombia to give an intensive workshop with advanced students, and a conference under the title "Creole sub-realism, between documentary photography, digital collage, pictorial fact and theatrical staging". He is invited as a jury member to assess graduation thesis exercises from students of the Film School in San Antonio de los Baños. Exhibition "Flagrant presence" along with the Mexican artist Rubén Ortiz Torres at the Image Center in Mexico City under Fotoseptiembre 2009. He presents a retrospective exhibition that begins to run in the Rosa Galisteo de Rodríguez Provincial Museum of Fine Artes in Santa Fe. Exhibition "Tristes Tropicos" in the Fernando Pradilla Gallery in Madrid.
He is invited to participate in a solo exhibition at the Encuentros de Fotografía de Arles. Lariviere Publishing House publishes a retrospective book "Marcos López, Fotografías 1978-2010"
La ISSP (The International Summer School of Photography) de Latvia lo invita a realizar un workshop con alumnos avanzados.
He is invited to give workshops under PhotoEspaña, GetxoPhoto and Festival de Paraty. He is awarded with the Quinquenio Photography Prize 2007/2011 by the Konex Foundation and the Platinum Konex for his life´s works.
He finishes his debut Ramón Ayala, documentary fiction about the composer, musician and painter who won the Audience Award BAFICI13 and is soon to be released in the commercial circuit.

His photographs are part of the collections in the Queen Sofia National Art Museum and Castilla and Leon Museum of Contemporary Art in Spain, the Daros Latin American Foundation in Switzerland, Quai Branly, among other public and private collections.
