Descripción
Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen - Oxford chair with high back in cognac leather
1960s, Denmark

The original version of the Oxford™ chair was designed by Arne Jacobsen for the professors of St. Catherine’s College in Oxford, in 1963. When the dean of Catherine's College chose Arne Jacobsen to design an extension, he also got the assignment for the surrounding landscape and for a furniture series for the entire school. The extra high backrest of the chair became a symbol of prestige, which could define a personal space. The 'Professor chair' was later developed into the Oxford series. This innovative example of an overall design is nowadays considered to be Arne Jacobsen's best work.

The chair is upholstered with cognac leather with a rotating aluminium base. Age-
related signs of wear and patina, some stains, scratches and a very small leather reparation on the left side of the chair.
