Large Buddhist shrine

In good condition. With original casing. The lacquered wood altar with gilt-wood interior is delicately carved and very old. Shows signs of aging.

Kannon is depicted in a standing position with the eyes downcast in a meditative expression all supported on a lotus throne with petal lappets.

Dimensions approx.:
39 cm high, 30 cm wide (open), 13 cm wide (closed) and 9,5 cm deep.
Weight ca. 950 gr.

Kannon 観音 (Chinese=Guānyīn) literally means watchful listening, is often translated as “one who sees / hears all.” Kannon witnesses/listens to the prayers and cries of those in difficulty and helps them achieve salvation.
