Oscar Liedel - Grotte de Remouchamps - 1926

Oscar Liedel - Grotte de Remouchamps - 1926
The most successful tourist poster for the cave of Remouchamps in Aywaille - Walloon (Valley of the Amblève)

Original lithography from 1926.

The image is an impression of the famous 'Pont des titans' (bridge of the Titans) - an impressive natural archway, which can be reached by boat after crossing the subterranean 'Rubicon' river. Visitors to the cave now have enjoyed the 'Cathedrale' or Cathedral, one of the largest subterranean rooms (more than 100 m high and 40 m wide) full of stalagmites, crystallisation basins etc ..., which were discovered in 1912.

Design: Oscar Liedel (1879-1957). Signed and dated in the stone 'O. Liedel' in the bottom right corner.
Oscar Liedel also illustrated the cover of the brochure on the cave of Remouchamps by E. Rahir (circa 1920). See photo + photo advert with a scaled-down poster from an old tourist brochure for the Belgian coast.
