Who is Keith Haring?

Keith Haring was an American artist, born in 1958. He died in 1990. He started commercial graphism studies, before entering the school of the Visual Arts in New York. He tried collage, painting, installations, video and drawing. In the 80s, he discovered other forms of expressions and created works in the streets, in the subway and various New York warehouses. He created several thousands of these drawings with energetic and rhythmic lines. His typical style is an infinite repetition of synthetic shapes lined in black with vivid colours. It is a permanent tale full of crawling babies, dolphins, TV sets, barking dogs, snakes, angels, dancers, androgynous silhouettes, flying saucers...

His first personal exhibition was held in 1982 in Paris. In 1985, he was invited to the Biennale in Paris. His international reputation continued to grow from then on. He was commissioned for many prestigious works like the fresco of the Necker Hospital in Paris. In his desire to reach a broad audience and make his art accessible to the greatest number, he opened his Pop Shop in 1986 in the Soho district. This approach was supported by his mentor, Andy Warhol. He collaborated with artists such as Madonna, Grace Jones.
