Hermannus Wilhelm (Herman) van der Worp (Zutphen, 8 January 1849 - Stad Delden, 9 April 1941) was a Dutch photographer and painter.
Life and work.
Van der Worp was born in the Spiegelstraat in Zutphen. His father Willem van der Worp (1803-1878) was a painter, a drawing teacher at the HBS and for a number of years he was known as a professional photographer. Like his father, Van der Worp was a photographer and painter in Zutphen. As a photographer he made business cards, as a painter he painted landscapes, cityscapes and portraits. He took part in various exhibitions, according to Scheen as early as 1864. He was a (board) member and from 1924 an honorary member of the Zutphen art association Pictura.
Van der Worp stayed several times in the village of Delden in Twente and in August 1906 he settled there permanently. Until 1939 he lived permanently in a hotel room in Hotel Carelshaven in Delden. From this hotel he makes many paintings of Delden and the forests and farms of Twickel Estate. Dr. R.F. Baron van Heeckeren van Wassenaer (1856-1936) built a studio for him in 1908, where Van der Worp painted until 1939.
From 1939 onwards, Van der Worp was brought to the the R.K. Hospital in Delden, where he died in 1941 at the age of 92.
