The Tachi (Japanese: 太刀) is a sword that was used by the samurai, with a long curved blade, mainly intended for fighting while riding a horse. The curvature served to handle the weapon quickly when passing by. The Tachi was the first long and curved blade in Japan and it was also a status symbol, due to the ornaments and the rich decoration of the sheath.
