- Signed and dated (65) in pencil
- Mixed media: ink/watercolour on paper
Theys studied from 1956 to 1958 at the Art Academy Sint-Lucas in Tournai. In 1959 he had his first solo exhibition, in Kortrijk, and he succeeded his teacher Eugène Dodeigne at the Academy and became professor in expressive drawing.
In 1964 he won the Prix de Rome and a medal of the Europe Award for painting in the city of Ostend.
Later in the 60s, with Roger Raveel and Raoul De Keyser and Etienne Elias he represented the ‘nieuwe visie’ (new vision). In his painting he was inspired by themes from world events, his everyday life and universal themes such as the relationship between man and woman. In his work he represents figures in an emotional manner, often patchy, and sometimes from changing perspectives.
