Jules Jacques Veyrassat, Paris 1828-1893
French painter and engraver of the Barbizon School. Studied
in Paris in the Henri Lehmann’s studio and exhibited his first works at the Salon of 1848.
Veyrassat was appointed chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1878.
He became affiliated with the school of Écouen and took Pierre Édouard Frère course. Charles Francois Daubigny and Pierre Édouard Frère introduced him to the practice of etching.
He was also associated with the Barbizon school. His subjects include farming and horses engaged in agricultural labour.
This painting is a wonderful example of his work on farm life and horse labour.
Oil on paper mounted on canvas.
Very good condition (a small issue on the left but very well restored). Signed in pencil at the bottom.
