Pino Procopio, (Guardavalle, 16 June 1954), is an Italian painter, sculptor and illustrator, exponent of the figurative art. He started his artistic studies at the Art School of Catanzaro but he completed them in Rome, where he graduated in Architecture at the La Sapienza University in 1982. In 1980 the art centre “La Bitta” held his first solo exhibition in Rome. After two years
spent in Verona, he settled in Giulianova, Abruzzo, in 1985.
In 2001 the “Fondazione Italiana Stauròs Onlus” invited him to exhibit his works at the Staurós museum of sacred contemporary art in San Gabriele. Today, the artwork “Padre, nelle tue mani consegno il mio spirito” is a permanent piece of the museum collection. The following year, in 2002, he made the painting for the
poster of the “World Book and Copyright Day” organised by the UNESCO. In 2003 the government monopolies commissioned him a painting to be placed on the ticket of the European Lottery. In 2004 he was commissioned to create the painting to be placed
on the Lotteria Italia ticket. In 2005 the Ministry of Communications promoted one of his exhibitions in Rome, about the evolution of the Italian postal service in 100 years of history. In 2007 the Pescara Committee of the
Dante Alighieri Society gave him the “Dante Alighieri 2007” award for the art category.
The following year, in 2008 in Rome, the Boncompagni-Ludovisi museum of the “Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea” (GNAM) organised “Ulisse, scene di un viaggio”, an exhibition
dedicated to him.
In 2015, in Rome, the “Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna” (GNAM) invited him to participate in a group exhibition, CORPORATE ART, that aimed to highlight the close connection between industry and art, through different commissions.
In 2017, with the patronage of UNESCO and MIUR (Ministry of Education, Universities and Research), the exhibition “Baadaye, Pinocchio d’Africa” took place. It was a new version of the story of
Pinocchio, in a modern way, linked to the tragedy of the immigration.
