Philip Akkerman (1957) was born in Vaassen.
He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and Ateliers '63 in Haarlem.
In total he made more than 6,000 self-portraits (drawings and paintings). This dedication to the self-portrait has not gone unnoticed: Akkerman has had solo exhibitions in museums at home and abroad. For example, in the Municipal Museum in The Hague, the North Brabant Museum in 's-Hertogenbosch and the Kunsthal in Rotterdam.
The Caldic collection has the largest Dutch collection of his work.
