A ‘Cong’ (pronounced ‘tsong’) is an ancient Chinese ritual object whose purpose has long been lost, although it is usually interpreted as representing ‘the Earth’. They appear in very ancient Neolithic cultures.
This stone represents more than a simple medium in China, it reflects the metaphysical concerns of the ruling elite of the Neolithic. The Cong were discovered in the graves of exceptional persons of the Liangzhu culture and of the Hongshan culture, probably both temporal and the spiritual masters.
