Ancient wooden African figurine/fetish of the Baule ethnic group from Côte d'Ivoire - ‘Waka-Sona’ fetish (Baule wooden being) representing a ‘blolo bla’(wife from the hereafter).
Blolo Bian and Blolo Bla fetishes, man and woman from the hereafter. These fetishes are the representations of an ancestor or a spouse of the hereafter, materialised by a figure corresponding to the fantasy or dream of the terrestrial husband or wife.
African statue collected in Bouake in the center of the Ivory coast
Small crack on the side left of the face.
The statuary is a form of ancestors’ cult, or embodiment from the hereafter, expressed through a mythical spouse who is respected. The Blolo represents everything of the other side of life, when an argument occurred between a Baule man and woman, one would blame a mythical spouse from the hereafter of disrupting the household, probably because it is a soul seeking for its memories.
