With frontispiece of Stanley plus 30 Full-page Wood Engravings
This is a very fine general survey of African exploration during the Victorian era, incorporating chapters on Stanley, Speke, Burton and many of the other most important explorers of the period. Much like the astronauts of the Apollo era, these explores in Africa were great heroes of their age and their toils and adventures thrilled readers around the world who were always eager to learn more.
An attractive work of ‘Stanley and Africa’ by Eva Hope (The author of "The Life of General Gordon"). Illustrated with frontispiece of Stanley and 30 full-page wood engravings. Finely crafted, bearing a portrait of Stanley in tooled gold leaf, which is also depicted on the spine. A truly lovely historical travel book.
