Rare "Rack lever" pocket watch by the maker T.N. Sownley.
Both cases are in exceptionally neat condition, no visible dents or prominent scratches. The outer case has a ribbed edge, just like the pendant.
Overall condition is stunning.
The cases are marked identically for sterling silver. With date letter G, this indicates the year 1825 (Chester).
What makes this watch so exceptional is the movement, it is the start of the anchor system, a so-called rack lever escapement.
Rack lever movements were not manufactured during a long period of time. The most clearly visible difference is the anchor wheel, which is many times larger compared to a "regular" lever movement. Please view the photos.
The movement runs along the entire chain very nicely.
The balance is finished with a diamond cover stone.
The dial has a small chip and a thin hairline crack.
With winding key.
