It is a work from the painter's youth. Made in a realistic style, it depicts the painter's sister, Ana Maria, from back to the window in Cadaqués. The painting is kept in the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid. Description: The portrait depicts the artist's sister, Ana Maria, aged seventeen. She is leaning from the back to the window, in the house of the Dali family in Cadaqués and is looking at the sea. Dali performed a work of great chromatic uniformity and simplicity in the composition where the girl introduces us into the landscape she contemplates. The girl, however, suffers from some problems of proportions. His feet in particular are very small. Dali's sister was depicted in many of the painter's paintings, both contemporary of this period and later, until Salvador Dali met his muse and married Gala. The painting was first exhibited at the Dalmau Gallery in Barcelona in November 1925. Some art critics, such as Folch i Torres, linked these portraits of Dali to the Noucentist movement. The painter declares in The Secret Life of Salvador Dali that Picasso saw the works in Barcelona and appreciated them. Ana Maria, pictured here, says, "The portraits my brother made me at that time are very numerous. Many were merely hair studies and shoulder. » Unlike these studies, this painting has a characteristic inspired by the masters that Dali studied at the time.  ; here he used a painting in the painting. The window plays the role of second frame included in the first, which the girl invites us to admire. The landscape is not separated from the rest of the canvas, but it is connected with the person watching it. The dominant chromatic values are the blues for the interior frame: the window, the sea, the sky, the skirt of Ana Maria and the curtains that serve as the frame of the painting in the painting. The painter plays on these blues as in Picasso's youthful works. The exterior painting that surrounds the interior painting is in ochre tones. These are the walls, floor and legs of the girl Ana Maria, referring to the long hours spent posing in front of these landscapes, added, "Indeed, Salvador always painted me in front of a window[ Salvador Dali, is unanimously recognized as the greatest surrealist artist, one of the greatest artists of the 20th century and definitively the most charismatic. The artwork on sale is part of a collection of rarities which are not very often or even never exhibited. The collection consists mainly of paintings and lesser-known drawings from many periods of the most prolific artist of our time. All these works are not always the most ‘beautiful’ in the aesthetic sense of the word, even though beauty is permanent in Dali’s work. They are all interesting, very exciting, each one is representing a part of the journey of this artist who has an overflowing, abundant, delusional imagination. These are all testimonies of the history of this genuine creative genius. To be discovered. With rare exceptions, I only own one copy of each.
