Maurice Wyckaert was born in Brussels. He was a neo-expressionist, lyrical-abstract painter, maker of gouaches and graphic artist. He made his debut with expressionist still lifes in a style that reminiscent of that of J. Brusselmans. He evolved from figurative to a dynamic abstract language of forms to offer a free interpretation of the landscape. He had his breakthrough in the early 1970s. Jules Raeymaekers Award of the Royal Academy, mention by the JPB (1957) and mention at the Biennale Sao Paulo (1961). He was a member of Présence (1949), Taptoe Brussels (1955) and the Situationistische Internationale. He was co-founder of magazine De Meridiaan. His work can be found in the metro station Jacques Brel in Brussels and in the museums of Brussels, Tournai, Ghent, Ostend (PMMK), Schiedam, Silkeborg, Helsinki, Vienna, Lausanne and Sao Paulo.
