Willem van Leusden studied at the academy for fine arts in The Hague and at the national academy in Amsterdam under the direction of Pieter Dupont.
He made many trips and visited many old French and Belgian cities where he preferably made studies of the Gothic cathedrals and other old buildings.
These studies gave life to a large graphic oeuvre, within many private collections, but a lot of work is also owned by the print cabinet of the national museum, the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht.
Van Leusden was a member of the 'Haagsche kunstkring' and of the 'Genootschap Kunstliefde'.
