Large and rare Faberge imperial photo frame - guilloche enamel, gold plating, glass - size: height 22 cm
Dimensions width 14 cm
It has a remarkable weight of 712 g and is very solid
All the golden parts are plated in 24 kt gold and guilloche enamel, an art form made famous by the master jeweller Carl Faberge during the reign of Russian czar Alexander III and, later, czar Nicholas II and czarina Alexandra. The egg was created using the French 18th century enamelling process known as “guilloche” which involves manually applying layers of enamel on a hand-engraved surface. This method is very expensive and time-consuming, but produces magnificent effects in depth of the enamel colour.
