Beautiful large work by artist M. Ottee, possibly A. van Gilst. M. Ottee is probably a pseudonym of Arnout van Gilst, The Hague 1898 - 1982 Bennebroek. Van Gilst is known as a painter, draughtsman, watercolourist and pastel painter of the Dutch country life and landscapes and cityscapes (primarily of Paris). Van Gilst studied sculpture at the Academy for the Fine Arts in the Hague but soon devoted himself to painting. Amsterdam. Arnout van Gilst may have painted under the pseudonym M Ottee. There are no uniform statements about this. Several years ago, a large work was auctioned by Christie's Amsterdam with waggoners and working horses on a quay, signed M Ottee. In the catalogue it was mentioned that this was possibly a pseudonym of Arnout van Gilst. The painting is superficially dirty. The frame has defects and is supplied free of charge.
