This art print is a rare first edition, indicated by the printed date at the bottom of the left margin. This date seal was cut out of the woodblock after the first edition.
Shiro studied art with Kaburagi Kiyokata. He created his first woodblock print designs for Watanabe Shozaburo in 1919. Shiro designed shin-hanga art prints for Watanabe for a long period of time and gained fame with his romantic landscapes and images of traditional Japanese life. Between 1952 and 1960 he also created over 100 woodblock print designs for Kyoto publisher Unsodo. Shiro is generally regarded as one of the top-notch shin-hanga woodblock print artists in Japan.

The woodblock print is in acceptable condition. The art print has been glued onto a piece of cardboard (please see the last two photos). The print shows quite some soiling and some damage (mostly at the top), see photo 10. Please see the photos for the details.
The woodblock print will be shipped by registered post in sturdy cardboard packaging.
