The figure of the postillion only acquired its definitive form in the second half of the fifteenth century. Before then, the postal service was only the prerogative of government or ecclesiastical institutions and some very wealthy private individuals.
It was an Italian family that first established an international service with connections between the main cities of Europe.
As a good observer, Durer realised the importance of this service and decided to dedicate two works to it.
