Emiel van Moerkerken (1916-1995), portrait of a student Spanish, 1958. Signed and dated with pencil on the backside: E. Moerkerken (5/86)
The original recording dates from 1958. This photo was printed in 1986.
The photo is included in the book 'Meisjes van Nederland' AW Bruna, Utrecht 1959. Page: 80.
In the 1930s and 1940s he mainly worked surreal. He had a fascination with the relationship between perception and the subconscious, and the relationship between sexuality and fantasy. In Netherlands he was one of the few photographers who were dealing with surrealism. Even in the 1930s he maintained contacts with the artists' circle of surrealists around André Breton in Paris. In addition to photographer he was cinematographer, film professor, novelist, and psychologist.
The image is taped with acid-free tape at the back on a mat.
