Henry van de Velde (1863 – 1957) was a Belgian painter, architect and interior designer. Together with Victor Horta and Paul Hankar he could be considered as one of the main founders and representatives of Art Nouveau in Belgium. Van de Velde spent the most important part of his career in Germany (e.g. Weimar) and had a decisive influence on German architecture and design at the beginning of the 20th century.
Other main jugendstil, art nouveau artists include Peter Behrens, Albin Müller, Josef Hoffmann, Olbrich, Serrurier-Bovy, .. but Van de Velde is recognized to be the father of decorative arts.
An one-off opportunity for lovers of decorative arts (jugendstil / art nouveau / art deco / modernism / bauhaus ..), an extremely rare find of museal quality.
The last 2 pictures are from the Design Museum Collection in Ghent.
Preferably to be collected in Ghent (Belgium)
