A wonderful 1920-1930 French art deco lamp in coloured glass paste and wrought iron mount. Mushroom lamps with a glass base by Delatte are very hard to find. The orange mottled shade is typical for André Delatte. The lamp is signed in acid on the base A.Delatte Nancy. It is 43,9 cm high and the shade has a diameter of 24 cm. André Delatte (1887-1953) was the banker of the Muller freres company. He was seduced and inspired by their products and after a study in chemistry Delatte opened in 1919 his own glass factory in Nancy. The Delatte workshop mainly produced coloured glass vases and lamp shades with a refined spickled colour pattern characteristic for Delatte. In 1933 the Nancy plant closed to the financial crisis. He moved to the area around Lyon France and unsuccesfully tried to re-open a glass factory in the town of Vénicieux and then started a new and smaller company under the name 'Art et Verrerie' with the signature Arvers in the city of Rive-de-Gier. But the glory days of French art déco, as transition of 19th century craftsmanship to modern mass production, were over and the demand for (expensive) high quality art deco glasses came to an end. And like the companies of Muller freres Degué and Schneider , Delatte closed down before the second worldwar after which he moved to the south of France and took up a job in insurances.
This rare lamp is in very good condition. It is cleaned and rewired. It comes rewired with a modern European E14 socket so you can use the lamp with an energy safing bulb or high quality LED. For the US or Asia I will place an american candelabra base socket and 2-prong plug.
