Beautiful surreal work by the Belgian painter Jozef (Jef, Joseph) Thewissen (1916-2002).
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège from 1945-48. Until the 1960s he painted abstract. In 1969, his style changed to surreal.
In 1975 he moved to the South French city of Manas, where he devoted himself to painting in a paradisiacal peace. Many exhibitions were the result.
His work was loved and found its way to buyers all over the world. Shortly before his death in 2002, he was honoured with a retrospective with more than 200 works in the Belfort of Bruges.
The offered work of art is very typical for the 1970s. It was purchased at an exhibition in the French Cannes in 1978. On the back is a review.
Signed by hand: J. Thewissen, and dated 4/78.
