Beautiful old anatomical wall plate, paper on linen between 2 black slats (original).
- brains and spinal cord
- circulatory system
It concerns 'PLATE V' from a series of six anatomical wall plates, which was published in 1917 by order of the Nat. League of "The ORANGE CROSS". This specimen is a fourth edition.
The map is designed and executed by Prof. Dr. J.A.J. Barge. He became professor of anatomy and embryology at Leiden University in 1919. The original edition from 1917 lacks the designation ' Prof. '.
In an ' In Memoriam ' from 1952, Professor Barge was praised for his talent as a speaker and his special drawing talents. The latter is seen in this anatomical good plate: the subjects are shown in powerful, flowing lines, with modest but striking colours and a lot of attention to detail.
