Carlo Dolci (After) - "Madonna of the finger"
The painting must be attributed to the artists of the Roman-Neoclassical school of 1800. From the 1850s, they abandoned the classical themes, and drew inspiration from the religious subjects, painted from great masters of the 17th century like Carlo Dolci.
The iconography is linked to the image of the Virgin: the Finger's Madonna, a very widespread representation of the 1600s, of which the Florentine painter Carlo Dolci has been worthy portraitist.
The painting, despite having been restored, has preserved its nineteenth-century pictorial patina and reveals a refined execution.
On the back, the inscription with a dedication, which refers to the painting as a gift between friends, confirms the year at which the painting belongs: "30 9mbre1874".
