Giorgio Gost was born on 6 April 1962 in Salsomaggiore. In the second half of 1990 he began to devote himself to metaphysical painting with a special interest in colours. In 2001 he began the “Percorsi nella Old Economy”, paintings on canvas with application of original documents from 1982 and 1983, mostly coming from industries and handwritten. It is the recognition of the social value of pure and hard manual work, of the honest entrepreneurial efforts that the artist wanted to underline with this cycle. In March 2011 he founded the “Manifesto dell’Art Economy” with Alessandro Celli. The basic idea is that the artist must create freely, free from pure market influences. Artworks must be created from what society (and even economy) offers: colours, materials and techniques of our time and our history. So Gost’s art became a means to communicate and spread concepts related to the world of economy, as a social and concrete rule of life, necessary for the balance and harmony of humanity. The same year, after the terrible earthquake in Japan on 11 March, Giorgio Gost started the cycle called “Stop the time”. Usually, we don’t attach importance to the simple things of everyday use, but they could be essential to us in difficult situations. So the artist applied commonly used items on the canvas (starting with bottles of water and cans of meat, then moving to food in general, expired medicines, stamps and coins), in order to preserve them for posterity and for the next millennia. After a few years, he created the “After - oggetti e concetti che verranno ricordati nell'anno 6000 anche se gli originali non esisteranno più”. He has been exhibiting regularly since 2008 and participated in the 2011 Venice Biennale, curated by Vittorio Sgarbi.
