Ceremonial weapon / axe - Made of wood and brass of the Dan ethnicity from Côte d'Ivoire.
The weight does not included the base. The base was custom-made near Abidjan, in Côte d'Ivoire.
The Dan, also known as Yacouba, live in the west of Côte d'Ivoire and in Liberia, in a wooded region in the south and covered by the savanna in the north. Before their union at the beginning of the century, allowed by secret societies, the Dan used to live in autonomous villages ruled by a chief, elected for his wealth and his social position. Nowadays, the Leopard society plays a major role within the lives of the Dan.
