In Greek mythology, Icarus was the son of master Daedalus, the creator of, i.a., the famous Labyrinth of Crete. Subsequently, Icarus and his father tried to escape from Crete with wings that his father made out of feathers and wax. Icarus’ father first warned him not to be complacent, then he warned him of his own hubris, and he told him to neither fly too low nor too high, so that the humidity of the sea would not clog his wings and the heat of the sun would not melt them. Icarus ignored his father’s instruction not to fly too close to the sun. As the wax in his wings melted, he fell from the sky, plunged into the sea and drowned - this story is the source of the phrase “don’t fly too close to the sun”, which is still being used today.
