Very nice and large museum piece.
Possibly B.G. Ten Berge. Origin renowned auction house. She and a curator museum Alkmaar deem the chance that this is an authentic work by B.G. Ten Berge quite large. The style and subject suits his way of painting. The piece has a high value.
Signed on the bottom left on the fence.
A beautiful depiction with nice red setting sun.
Please note: This piece needs some cleaning. There is also a tiny tear in the canvas in one of the sheep. (See photos.) Almost invisible but must of course be mentioned. It can be quiet simply fixed. Together with the cleaning, this work is museum-worthy.
Because of the size and the vulnerability, can only be picked up in Amsterdam or just below Bergen op Zoom.
B.G. ten Berge was a painter of mostly landscapes (with or without cattle), stable interiors and animal pieces. Most of his life, he lived and worked in his hometown of Alkmaar, where he also received his education. Pieter Plas, fellow townsman, brother-in-law and director of the local art company 'Kunst Zij Ons Doel', was his teacher. From 1850 to 1872, he regularly exhibited his work at the annual exhibition of ‘Levende Meesters’. The national print cabinet in Amsterdam and the national museum Kröller-Müller owns work (drawings) by Ten Berge.
