Beautiful painting, view of a village, with in the background an obtuse church tower.
A woman walks past the premises in the foreground.
Painted on panel by Herman Moerkerk in his well-known style.
Please see the photos for a good impression. These are part of the description.
Painting is in a frame, in fine condition.
Although Herman Moerkerk didn’t have an art education, he did get lessons by Jan Bogaerts and Petrus Marinus Slager. He joined the company of his father after his education.
Moerkerk was a passionate draughtsman who was capable of making a well resembling portrait using relatively few lines. Soon he was asked to make political cartoons, especially of people in the city council of Den Bosch.
Otherwise he made designs for parades, stage decors and posters. Moerkerk also made oil paintings besides drawings.
He moved to Haarlem, where he found employment as illustrator of the Katholieke Illustratie.
Works of Moerkerk can be found in:
Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem, Het Noordbrabants Museum in 's-Hertogenbosch, Singer Museum in Laren, Museum Kempenland in Eindhoven.
Will be sent by registered mail or can be picked up in Roosendaal.
