The petrified egg was found in the late 1990s in Mongolia / Gobi Desert. It can be assumed that it belongs to the "Oogenus" class of the "Dendroolithidae", an egg class that was laid almost exclusively by "sauropods". The latter was a class of dinosaurs that was widespread in Mongolia but also in North and South America.
The egg was acquired in Germany at the beginning of 2000 and submitted to the archaeological department of the NHM Vienna for investigation in 2001. A certificate of authenticity at that time (see annex) was then issued.
