VERY RARE medal
Created by King Edward VII under Army No. 211 of 1904, the medal was awarded to soldiers and non-commissioned officers for effective and flawless service in the military for 18 years and for 15 annual camps. Any prior full-time service in the regular army did not count, although service in other voluntary, territorial, or auxiliary forces could be counted, provided that five years immediately prior to allocation were served with the army . Interruptions of service of less than one year were allowed. In 1906, eligibility was extended by royal mandate to certain militia forces overseas, notably in Bermuda and Malta.

The medal ceased to be awarded when, as part of Haldane's reforms, the militia was abolished and replaced by the special reserve on 1st April 1908. The Special Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was then introduced to serve in the new force. The Militia Long Service Medal was awarded again from 1921, when the special reserve became the militia as part of the reform of the part-time forces. It was restructured in 1924 as an additional reserve providing specialised technical support to the regular army. The Long Service Militia Medal was finally replaced by the Efficiency Medal with "Militia" bar in 1930.
The awards have been published in military orders, with a total of 1,587 medals awarded:
1,446 bearing the effigy of King Edward VII (awarded from 1904 to 1908); and 141 with that of George V (awarded between 1921 and 1930). In terms of unity, were conferred:
Royal garrison artillery: 341;
Royal Engineers: 15;
Royal engineer for minor submarines: 8; Infantry: 988;
Channel Islands (Jersey and Guernsey): 89; Malta: 131;
Bermuda: 15.
