Kyoson Takahashi (1804-1868) studied nanga style painting under famous Nakabayashi Chikuto and later studied calligraphy with Rai Sanyo. Opened a private school 鉄鼎学舎 and nurtured many pupils, leaving many excellent works in landscape paintings and portraits.
He improved poetry and formed friendship with Yanagawa Seigan and Ohara Tesshin.
The realistic quails are skillfully drawn with delicate and detailed brushstrokes on a stunning screen composition.
Roller ends are bone.
