OSRAM Licht AG is a German multinational lighting manufacturer.
In 1905 Carl Auer von Welsbach invented the lamps with a tungsten wire in the bulb. He was also the creator of the OSRAM brand, derived from osmium and Wolfram (German for tungsten), as both these elements were commonly used for lighting filaments as they were able to withstand the incandescence due to their very high melting temperatures (about 3400 degrees Celsius).
The first patent dates back to April 17, 1906.
Headquartered in Munich, Germany, the company boasts 33 factories in 14 different countries, and is currently a leading company in its sector.
