Beautifully decorative pianola rolls 4 pieces in perfect condition. Belgium 1920
A pianola is a playing machine that allows piano music to be performed. The concept was originally a brand name, but is now used as a species name.
These rolls were used in automatic pianos, the forerunner of the later radios and gramophones.
Several beautiful, mostly classic pieces.
The first pianola was built in 1895 by the American Edwin Votey. Pianolas were on sale in the US from 1897, under the Pianola brand and produced by the Aeolian Company. In Europe they appeared two years later. In the United States, these were officially called "player pianos". In the Netherlands they became known as the "artificial pianos". Later, the brand name Pianola became a generic term for all automatic pianos.
Rolls in this condition are extremely rare.
