Raymond Michael Mancini (born 4 March 1961) is better known as Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini . Mancini was an American professional boxer who played a total of 34 matches between 1979 and 1992, winning 29, including 23 K.O. He lost a total of 5 matches, including 4 in a row at the end of his career. He was WBA world lightweight champion in 1982.
On 13 November 1982, the then 21-year-old Mancini met 23-year-old South Korean challenger Duk Koo Kim for a world title fight. Kim struggled to reach the weight limit of 135 pounds and had to lose a few pounds shortly before the fight. The title fight which was broadcast live by CBS was won by Mancini through a technical knockout in the 14th round. After the fight ended, Kim collapsed, fell into a coma and died four days later.
Mancini became a well-known actor and producer after his boxing career. A film was made about his boxing career and he also became known as a boxing analyst in America.
