On 15 June 1980 Jean Rondeau became a legend, not only a Le Mans local who won at his home circuit, but also the first driver to win with a car with his own name.
It was a simple and effective combination. Driven by an engine that was ubiquitous for already 10 years in the F1, the silhouette of the M379B will forever be associated with Rondeau.
But to win, he needed to survive a deluge and to beat a Porsche 908/80, driven by Jacky Ickx. The 24 hours of 1980 will forever belong to the born son of Le Mans, Jean Rondeau.
