A crane among clouds represent nobility; a pair of cranes represent a wish for long married life while a crane in pine trees a wish for a long life together (松鹤同春 sōng hè tóng chūn 'grow old together as if in Spring')
the crane is a symbol of happiness and eternal youth. The crane is one of the mystical or holy creatures (others include the dragon and the tortoise) and symbolizes good fortune and longevity because of its fabled life span of a thousand years.
