Constant Permeke (1886-1952) - De Bedelaar
Beautiful print by the renowned Sint Augustine printing house commissioned by the Permeke museum in Jabbeke (Belgium). The edition is unknown to me but it is a limited edition of more than 50 years old. This reproduction was never framed and was kept in great condition.
Constant Permeke was a Flemish painter, sculptor and draughtsman. He was born on 31 July 1886, and died on 4 January 1952. Permeke is seen as one of the most important painters of Flemish Expressionism. Besides fishermen and marines, he mainly painted farmers, landscapes and interiors. He emphasised man's hard work and his connection to the earth. His figures are deliberately distorted and his colours are warm tones. In addition, he produced monumental figure composition in which his preference for the geometric aspect showed the influence of Cubism and Léger.
Constant Permeke was a central figure of the avant-garde movements Selection, L'Art Vivant and Kunst van Heden. He was the director of the National Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp for a while. Was a member of the royal Flemish academy of sciences, humanities and fine arts of Belgium. His two sons, John and Paul, are also painters.
This old reproduction will be sent professionally packed between two pressed plates and insured with track and trace code.
