He started to paint at the age of 13, interested in capturing the peculiarities of things and faces, in emphasising them and sometimes in deforming them. In 1955 he won the “Premio Pirelli” for painting and in 1956 he participated in a solo exhibition at “Centro Culturale Pirelli”, Milan. He attended Filippo Scroppo’s school from 1956 to 1958, a stimulating meeting point for many artists from the Turin area. Then he approached the CO.BR.A. movement and elaborated its expressionist style in a completely personal way. Subsequently, he was attracted to informalism and made abstract works, without geometric representations: oil paintings initially avoided strong colour contrasts, and explored the expressive possibilities of slight colour variations. From the 1960s, he was interested in action painting: large brush strokes of colour crossed his paintings to meet and then change direction; for this long phase of experiments, Tuninetto was considered by various critics a true exponent of gestural art in Italy. His work “Oltre il muro” appeared on the cover of the publication “Cefalonia, l’ultima testimonianza” (2004). He actively participated in the “Immagine & poesia” project, created by Lidia Chiarelli and the English writer Aeronwy Thomas, with students of the Giuseppe Perotti secondary school of Turin, a project that later gave rise to the international literary art movement. His research in the field of ceramics was important: in the early 1970s he made many plates at the Besio manufactory, Mondovì, and he went on with “plates”, “landscape-vases”, “monoliths”, and his famous “heads”. In the same period he experimented with glass processing: the fusion of glass at 900° allowed him to obtain the plastic movement of surfaces; this is how his verox works were created with varies conglomerations of different materials. In addition to the many solo and group exhibitions from the 1950s to the early 21st century, his works are kept in the collections of many museums: Museum of Cinema, Turin; Museo del Vetro, Altare; Civic Museum of Torre Pellice; Museum of Mombercelli; Civic Museum of Alessandria; Museum of Fine Art, Volgograd (Russia). Bibliography: (1981). Adriano Tuninetto alla Ceramica Besio Anni 70. Catalogue of Ceramiche Besio, Turin. (1983). A. Tuninetto: terrecotte, ceramiche, gres. Catalogue of Galleria Pirra, Turin. (2002). Adriano Tuninetto: forme colori luci cose. Catalogue of Arteregina, Turin. (2004). Adriano Tuninetto: Nell’oggi anche memorie. Fogliato catalogue, Turin.
