Jolly roger -Gentex HGU39 with a MBU12 oxygen mask

4 distinct U.S. Naval Aviation squadrons have used the name and insignia of the Jolly Roger, the : VF-17, VF-61, VF-84, and VF-103, since redesignated as VFA-103. While these are distinctly different squadrons that have no lineal linkage, they all share the same Jolly Roger name and all use the skull and crossbones insignia and the traditions.
After disestablishment of VF-84 in 1995, the Jolly Rogers name and insignia were adopted by VF-103, which later became VFA-103,

The helmet you see is a transition helmet, so here they were still using the older Gentex HGU39 with a MBU12 oxygen mask when they were flying the Mighty Grumman F14 Tomcat. When they later start flying in the new Boeing F18 Hornet they would use the new HGU55p with the MBU20 oxygen mask. Parts of the tape on this helmet is redone, reglued and restored, the cross and bones where put back on. it's further it’s100% original, and the helmet itself is untouched and in very good condition concerning it’s age.

This helmet is in good used condition, it’s a aviation veteran with a thick rubber edge roll, a leather interior, the visor is without cracks or scratches, the communication parts are still present and the oxygen mask is still like new.

It is like all NAVY fighter aircraft helmets that operate from a carrier fully taped with the special 3M reflective tape, this is mandatory for personnel so they are visibly in the dark on a moving aircraft carrier deck with a lot off planes being catapulted in the air, this is a very dangerous environment.
In the proud colours of the VF103 Squadron JOLLY ROGERS mixing the visor cover colours from VF84 with the yellow of VF103.

This was one of my favourite helmets, still very colourful like all the NAVY helmets from that time, now everything has to be made in dull grey. Please take a good look at the photos they are the best description of this item, this helmet will be quickly send after payment, carefully packed with track and trace.
