Grouser for Sherman M4 with T41 tracks, produced from July 1942
As the flat-tread T41 rubber tracks did not have much grip, metal devices known as “grousers” were introduced to be installed every nine or ten treads to improve grip on soft terrain.
When not in use, they were stowed in racks placed on the hull, providing additional armour.
This one was found in a wooded field about 1 km from the beach where the landing of Anzio took place, on 22 January 1944.
It is sold with an elegant display with an information plaque.
This item is not from some warehouse but it was actually part of the landing on the beach of Anzio!
