This is a privately acquired Royal Infantry officer’s sword from the Kingdom of Württemberg. This was a state in the southwest of present-day Germany. It was created on 1 January, 1806, as a sovereign kingdom at the instigation of Napoleon Bonaparte, emperor of the French, who aspired to political hegemony. A very nice, used, and well-preserved piece with a solid brass hilt, this was once gilded, now rubbed off in places. Has a hinged guard with the typical Württemberg coat of arms. Wooden grip shell, covered with fish skin and triple silver wire wrap, in a very nice, used condition, with the original finger loop and original leather buffer pad. Elegant singe-edged blade with a fuller on both sides, blade sharpened for the field, significantly sharp, with signs of wear and tear (slashes). The blade is slightly blotchy at the heel, and somewhat pitted at the point, but in a very good condition. Solid iron scabbard with a suspension loop, with a funnel-shaped scabbard mouth, genuine burnish, signs of wear and tear. A very nice, significant officer's sword for use in the field.
