A collection of etchings/engravings of various dimensions and by various German and Italian artists/illustrators/engravers.
Including work by Berkman/1824.
Almost all their work can be found in the British Museum.
The collected work is subtly mounted on paper from
James Whatman (1702-1759) with watermark 'J. Whatman 1825'
James Whatman was a Kent-born papermaker who made revolutionary advancements in the craft in England. He is known as the inventor of vellum paper, an innovation used for high-quality art and printing.
The small sheets are w x h 270 x 370 mm and the large ones measure w x h 360 x 54 0mm.
All etchings are certainly in exceptionally good condition given their age. Hardly to no yellowing and they are all undamaged.
The smallest etching measures 23 x 27 mm and the largest etching measures 215 x 310 mm.
All the engravings/etchings on the 3 large pages are depicted on paper with lines structure as seen in the last detail photos. The images on the 3 large pages are printed on both very thin grey clouded paper and on the thicker carrier in which the relief of the edges of the plate are also visible.
