Welcome to Passion d’Orient:
The beginnings of the Berber rug, its origins and the significance of its patterns go back a long time. It is not descended from the Oriental rugs of the Islamic era, but the similarity of the knotting technique and of certain patterns indicates that they have common roots, which probably go back to the Neolithic period in Asia Minor. The Berber rug, being well away from the great civilisations of antiquity and far from the cultural exchanges of the Silk Route, has kept its originality in the mountainous regions of the Atlas and the Atlantic plains.
