Circle-shaped Tsuba made from iron. The sailing ship and waves are engraved with Sukashi-Bori (openwork) technique. The sail is catching the wind. Waves' shapes look similar to pine trees. Pine trees are often designed at shores in Japanese design. The ship peeking through the pine trees is called the "Matsuho" pattern; pine trees are regarded as waves.

As Japan is an island, ships were essential transportations before automobiles or airplanes were invented. Therefore, ships (or boats) are familiar motifs for Japanese people.

The sailing boat, which is characterized by its large inflated sails, is a happy pattern that makes us feel hope for the future.
