A Japanese (Arita, Hizen Provence) Imari-'yaki' lidded miso soup bowl, Taisho/Showa, ca 1925, ca 7.5 cm. high and 10.7 cm. Ø.
The inside decorated in underglaze blue with stylized floral motifs, the rim with swastika-shaped diaper pattern, the outside decorated in overglaze iron red, gold and enamel colours with leaf patterns, lozenge-shaped diaper pattern and cartouches with flowering trees under a cloudy sky, the base with a band of lotus motifs in blue, the cover with two stylized characters, rim crack and minor loss of iron red (images #16-17).
